STORRS, CT - UConn center Wes Hoeh (Glen Ellyn, IL) has been named to the 2025 Rimington Trophy preseason watchlist announced on Friday. The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the award has raised over $5 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation.
Hoeh, who transferred in to UConn last fall from Syracuse, helped anchor an offensive line that fueled the way to an explosive offense attack. The UConn offense continued lean on their rushing attack and in 2024 averaged 199.2 yards per game to rank 21st nationally. The Huskies scored 31.9 points per game, 35th nationally, and had one of the best red zone offenses in the country, ranking fourth (.932). UConn's 5169 yards of total offense ranked as third most in UConn football history while the 2590 yards rushing ranked second all-time. The Huskies finished the year scoring 415 points, the second highest total in school history.
The offensive line unit was dominant yet again, allowing just 1.08 sacks per game, 13th nationally, and just 4.00 tackles for loss per game, 15th nationally. During the season, the Huskies were named to the mid-season honor roll for the Joe Moore Award, given annually for the Most Outstanding Offensive Line Unit in college football.
This year, the Trophy committee worked with Pro Football Focus (PFF) to narrow down its list to the top 40 centers. PFF grades every player on every play of every game on how well they execute their given assignment.Â
While more than a dozen All-America teams are selected annually, the Rimington Trophy committee uses these three prestigious teams to determine a winner: Walter Camp Foundation (WCF), Sporting News (SN), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
