No. 22 Huskies Fall Short in Final Minutes Against Villanova

STORRS, Conn. – No. 22 UConn men's soccer team lost to the Villanova Wildcats, 2-1 on Saturday evening in front of a sold-out crowd at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Villanova scored two goals in the final two minutes of the match, overturning the Husies lead in dramatic fashion. The loss moves UConn to 1-1 in BIG EAST play and 6-2-3 overall this season.
The first half began with both teams struggling to find the net despite multiple opportunities. UConn controlled much of the possession with shots favoring the Huskies, 8-6 in the first half.
UConn took the lead in the 57th minute with a goal from junior midfielder Max Gummesson, his first of the season, giving the Huskies a 1-0 advantage.
In a stunning late-game turnaround, Villanova scored two goals in the 88th and 89th minutes, snatching victory away from the Huskies just moments before the final whistle.
