Huskies Surge Past Creighton Behind Three Second Half Goals

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team defeated the Creighton Bluejays, 3-0 on Friday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. The Huskies scored three goals, all coming in the second half. The win pushes UConn to 2-1 in BIG EAST play, and a 7-2-3 overall record this season.
Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Durham was sensational in the win, recording a career high ten saves, and his first career assist on UConn's third goal. Durham earned his fifth clean sheet this season, the third most among active BIG EAST goalkeepers.
The first half between UConn and Creighton saw a flurry of activity with chances for both sides to open the scoring. Both goalkeepers held strong, making three saves-a-piece to keep the game scoreless until halftime. UConn led in shots, 10-6 in the first half.
UConn secured a dominant second half performance, starting with junior defender Ayoub Lajhar's first goal of the season in the 53rd minute, giving UConn a 1-0 lead.
In the 56th minute, freshman forward Edward Wester scored his first career goal to double UConn's lead, finishing off a perfect cross from Lajhar in front of goal, putting the Huskies firmly in control at 2-0.
Durham came up big for the Huskies in between the sticks, making seven of his ten saves in the final 30 minutes of the match.
Freshman midfielder Preston Alessio sealed the win in the 87th minute with his second goal of the season, making it 3-0 Huskies. Sophomore forward Alfonso Arredondo put Alessio through on goal with a flicked header from a Durham punt.
The second-half goal surge marks the fourth time this season UConn has netted three goals in the second half, all resulting in victories.
