Huskies Post Strong Results in Beantown Challenge

CAMBRIDGE, MA- UConn track and field returned to action for the first time in 2026, competing in the Beantown Challenge in Cambridge on Saturday. The Huskies set 11 new top-10 program marks in a strong team performance.
"Today was a great meet. Harvard did a great job hosting a 10-team meet and it was a great competitive environment," said Head Coach Beth Alford-Sullivan. "I am pleased with the level of competition to start the season off. It was a good start to the season in a mid-January competition. Our team appears to be strong across the board, as it has been over the last handful of years. It is setting up to be an exciting push towards the BIG EAST Championships in February. We're looking forward to opening competition for our multi-event athletes on Thursday and the whole squad on Saturday."
Women's Field:
- Gabriela DeFelice finished 11th in weight throw at 14.92m. Ella Karp took 16th at 13.39m.
- Jaidah Garrett claimed third in the long jump at 5.93m. Jalynn Smith finished sixth at 5.48m.
- Rachel Mason finished fourth in the pole vault at 3.80m, tying the third best mark in indoor program history
- Sinclaire Fryer, Brook-lynn Roberts, and Ella Karp respectively claimed sixth, seventh, and eighth place in the shot put, with respective throws of 13.77m, 13.32m, and 13.07m.
- Â Kaylee Meyer took second in the high jump at 1.74m. Ruby Tillson finished fourth at 1.65m.
Men's Field:
- Marshall Potter placed second in the weight throw at 18.66m. Alex Krause finished in seventh place at 17.42m. Lucas DeCrescenzo took 11th place at 15.13m.
- Emi Erekosima placed second in the long jump at 7.05m. Michael Johnson claimed fifth at 6.58m
- Potter won the shot put, with his final throw of 17.25m coming in as the top mark of the day.
- Wyatt Martin finished fourth in the pole vault competition at 4.60m.
Women's Track:
- Tillson and Maia Rich qualified for the 60m hurdle finals, with respective times of 8.67 and 8.82. Tillson finished fifth in the final at 8.60, tied for the ninth-fastest performance in program history
- Caroline Rice and Jessica Starr took fourth and fifth in the 600m. Rice crossed the line in 1:35.64 (sixth-fastest all-time), with Starr close behind at 1:35.72 (seventh-fastest all-time)
- Anna Connors won the 300m competition in 38.89. Emerson Flaker finished fourth with a time of 39.72, the third-fastest time in program history
- Calista Mayer finished fifth in the 500m at 2:52.33
- The team of Starr, Rice, Flaker, and Connors won the 4x440y competition with a time of 3:48.14 (3:46.82 in 4x400m)
Men's Track:
- The trio of Mohamed Wahdan, Wyatt Gravier, and Diarmuid O'Connor qualified for the 60m hurdle finals. Wahdan finished the first round in 8.05, with Gravier and O'Connor crossing the line in 8.18 and 8.38, respectively. Warden claimed second in the finals at 7.92, tied for the fifth-best mark in program history.
- Noble Gongon just missed qualification for the 60m final, finishing the qualifiers in 6.85.
- Gabe Cuffey finished second in the 600m in 1:19.96. OJ Singletary was close behind, taking third place with a time of 1:20.15. These performances from Cuffey and Singletary rank seventh and eighth-fastest in program history
- Mekhi Stone claimed third in the 300m at 33.73. TJ Jaravaza crossed the line in 34.06, good for fourth place on the afternoon and fourth best in program history. Peyton Butler and Noah Colangelo ran the 300m race in 34.63 and 35.07, the sixth and ninth-fastest times in program history, respectively
Up Next: The Huskies will compete at the Penn Elite 2026 meet, beginning with the multi-events on Thursday January 22nd and concluding on Saturday, January 24th.
