Maresa Hense Breaks School Pentathlon Record

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Â Sophomore Maresa Hense set a new program record in the indoor pentathlon, winning the event with 4,201 points at the Ott Center on Friday afternoon. The mark currently sits as the top pentathlon mark in the country.
Hense started the afternoon with a sixth place finish in the 60m hurdles, crossing the line at 8.78. Hense followed that up with a second place performance in the high jump at 1.69m and a third place finish in the shot put at 11.27m. The sophomore from Germany finished third in the long jump at 5.97m, and completed the victory with a dazzling win in the 800m, finishing in 2:11.00.
Senior Diarmuid O'Connor made history of his own in Philly, setting a new Irish record in the heptathlon with 5,596 points, the second-best mark in program history. O'Connor finished second in the event behind BYU's Ben Barton, who won with 5,818 points.
On Thursday, O'Connor finished sixth in the 60m at 7.08 and third in the long jump at 7.15m. O'Connor secured third in the shot put at 13.67m and fourth in the high jump at 1.86m. O'Connor kicked off Friday with a fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles at 8.55. The two-time All-American capped off Friday with second place finishes in the pole vault (4.46m) and the 1000m (2:36.79).
