SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – UConn men's basketball standout Solo Ball has been named a Top Five Finalist for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, as announced by the Naismith Hall of Fame on Tuesday (March 9).
Ball leads the Huskies in scoring this season with 13.9 points per game and was selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team earlier this week. On Feb. 14 vs. Butler, Ball became the 54th Husky in program history to score 1,000 points in a UConn uniform. He currently ranks 50th in program history with 1,051 points and is 14 threes away from cracking the top-10 all-time in 3-pointers, sitting in 13th with 185.
This season, Ball has scored in double-figures 20 times and has four 20-point efforts. He scored a career-high 26 points in a conference-opening win over Butler on Dec. 16 and has knocked in 24 twice, a home win over Villanova on Jan. 24 in which he hit five 3-pointers and the road game at Butler on Feb. 11 when he drilled a season-high six from range.
Ball and the Huskies return to action on Thursday, March 12 in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament where they will face either Marquette or Xavier.
