Trio of Huskies Named to NFCA All-Region Teams

STORRS, Conn. โย Three UConn softball student-athletes garnered NFCA East All-Region honors on Thursday afternoon. Cat Petteys and Jessica Walter were named to the second team while Kaitlyn Breslin got third team honors.ย
Sophomore shortstop Cat Petteys (Vestal, N.Y.) receives her second consecutive NFCA All-Region honors. A third team honoree a season ago,ย Petteysย has ascended to being one of the top infielders in the northeast, resulting in her being named the BIG EAST Player of the Year in just her second season in Storrs.ย Petteysย leads the Huskies roster in batting average (.397), hits (73), doubles (16), home runs (19), RBI (58), and runs scored (60). She ranks 16thย in Division I in total bases (150), 33rdย in home runs (19), 42ndย in runs (60), and 49thย in slugging percentage (.815). Her 34 career home runs are tied for the most in program history. She has started in all 57 games at shortstop this season.ย
Graduate pitcher Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) earns NFCA All-Region second team honors for the first time in her career. The right-handed hurler has had her best year yet in her final collegiate season, posting career highs in appearances (39), game started (18), wins (8), innings pitched (116.1), and strikeouts (72).ย Walterย has recorded nine saves this season, ranking second in Division I. She leads the Huskies pitching staff in era (3.31), and appearances (39).ย
Junior outfielder Kaitlyn Breslin (Hopkinton, Mass.) picked up her second consecutive NFCA All-Region honors.ย Breslinย was a first teamer in 2025 and has continued to be one of the Huskies steadiest hitters under head coach Laura Valentino. This season,ย Breslinย slugged double digit homers (11) for the second straight year, giving her 27 for her career, ranking fifth in program history. She has posted career highs in RBIs (56), and doubles (11) at the plate.ย Breslinย has started in all 57 games this season in the outfield.ย ย
