Matt Leifheit joins UConn Head Coach Jim Mora’s coaching staff in 2025 and will work as an assistant coach with the Husky special teams. Leifheit comes to Storrs after spending the last two seasons on the staff at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Leifheit completed a two-year stint as a special teams graduate assistant for the Golden Eagles this past fall. He worked to create and implement weekly game plans as well as building special teams meetings and teach tapes. He also assisted with running scout team units during practice and assisted with recruiting all special teams players.
Prior to his time at Southern Miss, Leifheit was the special teams quality control assistant at Eastern Kentucky University during the 2022 season. He assisted with all special teams responsibilities while assisting with scouting and game planning each week and coached a FCS nationally ranked punt return unit.
He began his coaching career at the University of Findlay in 2021 as the nickels back position coach.
Leifheit earned his degree in education, recreation and sport management from the University of Tennessee in 2020 and went on to earn a master’s in sport management during his time at Southern Mississippi.
