Owen Sammarone is in his second season as a Graduate Assistant with the UConn men’s basketball program, assisting in all phases of the program, including assistant coaches’ recruiting travel, scout and game preparation, and team operations. Sammarone came to UConn after serving as the Head Manager for head coach Dan Hurley during the 2017-18 season at the University of Rhode Island.
During his time as an undergraduate student at URI, Sammarone spent four years working as a student manager. He worked closely with the Director of Basketball Operations and Graduate Assistant with day to day responsibilities.
Sammarone, born in Summit, N.J., graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rhode Island with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations in May, 2018. He has coached at several summer camps throughout his undergraduate career including the Dan Hurley Basketball Camp and Excel Basketball. He will pursue his M.S. in Financial Risk Management from the UConn Hartford campus.
