NIkki Cuccio enter her first season back with the UConn softball program as an assistant coach.
Cuccio is coming from Fordham University where she spent last season as an assistant coach under Melissa Inouye. She served as the volunteer assistant at UConn under Valentino during the 2022 season, helping lead the Huskies to their first BIG EAST Regular season title in 25 years while being a part of the BIG EAST coaching staff of the year.
“I am thrilled to welcome back Nikki Cuccio to UConn Softball,” said Valentino. “Nikki’s work ethic, loyalty, and unifying personality will have an immediate impact on our program. I’m looking forward to watching her grow as a coach amongst our staff. Nikki will assist our athletes defensively and I am confident she will contribute to our championship culture.”
Cuccio started her coaching career at Wesleyan, spending two years with the Cardinal’s.
A 2019 graduate of Adelphi University, Cuccio started all four years for the Panthers. In her senior season, she ranked second on the team in RBI's (33), while tallying 45 runs and 53 hits including 13 doubles and eight triples. Throughout her four years, she helped lead her team to four-straight NCAA Tournaments, and was a part of the 2017 & 2018 NE10 Championship team. She was also named an All-ECAC Honorable Mention in 2019 and earned a spot on the NE10 All-Conference Second Team in 2018 and 2019.
Cuccio started her coaching career in 2017 when she began giving private lessons, and participated in camps, and clinics. Additionally, she was the assistant softball coach for the Ducks Fastpitch 18U team for two seasons.
A sport management major with a minor in communications/journalism and public relations, Cuccio was a student-worker in the athletic communications office for all four years. She also was an editor of the school newspaper, The Delphian, for three years.
