Former UConn team captain Courtney Hofer was named an assistant coach for the Huskies in Dec. 2021 and will coach her first season at UConn in fall 2022.
"We are very excited to officially welcome Courtney as an assistant coach on our staff!" head Margaret Rodriguez said on Hofer's hiring. "Her values align with our vision and will help us continue the pursuit of excellence on and off the field. During the search, it was evident that our best fit was already within our program. Courtney's pride and commitment to UConn women's soccer and our current and future student-athletes is exactly what we were looking for. We felt her work ethic, experience as a player and coach and eagerness to learn, grow and grind in this role was very apparent. Her passion and energy is Infectious and I'm confident she will bring great value to our team, staff and program moving forward."
Hofer worked with UConn as a volunteer assistant in 2021, when the squad posted a 9-8-1 overall record. Sophomore Kaitlyn Mahoney started 17 games in goal and held a 1.28 goals-against average and an .806 save percentage. Mahoney was recently named NEWISA All-New England Third Team.
Hofer was a 2017 team captain for the Huskies and played 10 games during her time in Storrs. She arrived at UConn after transferring from TCU, a program that she helped lead to the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Hofer played 24 games over the course of three seasons.
Since graduating from UConn, Hofer played professionally in Italy for Empoli FC in Tuscany as the team finished second in the table in the 2018-19Â Serie B season.
During the 2019 season Hofer got her first coaching gig at East Carolina as a volunteer assistant. After spending time with the Pirates, Hofer was hired as an assistant coach at Princeton in 2020.
