Over the past seven years, Riley Fitzgerald has worked with an array of athletes, teams, and organizations as a high-performance mental game consultant, coach-educator, researcher, and lecturer. Prior to joining UConn, Riley served as the Coordinator of Sport Psychology services at Boston University where he was tasked with helping student-athletes develop strategies geared toward performing their best on a consistent basis while thriving in the process. As a coach-educator for organizations such as USA Hockey and the Institute for Rowing Leadership, Riley has supported coaches in the development of optimal performance environments that promote the performance, well-being, and long-term athletic development of players.Â
Riley completed his master’s degree in counseling psychology with a specialization in sport & performance psychology at Boston University in 2016. He is currently a doctoral candidate at BU pursuing an Ed.D in sport & performance psychology. His dissertation research centers on an exploration of the systemic barriers to athletic development and achievement faced by BIPOC players participating in the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Hockey Is For Everyone (HIFE) programming. While at BU, Riley also taught classes in the Questrom School of Business (department of Management and Organizations) and Wheelock College of Education & Human Development (department of Counseling Psychology & Applied Human Development).Â
