Huskies Fall to Providence in Regular Season Finale

PROVIDENCE, RI - The UConn men's hockey dropped the regular season finale at Providence by a final of 3-1. The Huskies lone goal was scored by Ryan Tattle.
The first period began with the Huskies jumping out on the early attack. After weathering the initial rush by UConn, Providence countered. Midway through the first period, the Huskies penalty kill unit would see their first action as a slashing penalty by Carlin Dezainde put the Huskies a man down. UConn's penalty kill was strong but after UConn killed the penalty, a loose puck in front of the UConn goal found the stick of a Providence skater who pushed it five hole giving the friars the 1-0 lead. The Huskies were unable to find the equalizer in the first as they entered the period break trailing by one.
The second period began with both teams battling. The Huskies would get their first man advantage of the afternoon and would capitalize when Ryan Tattle skated in the slot and fired a shot bar down. Providence had opportunities to regain the lead midway through the period, but UConn's defense shut down the Friars high-power offense. The Huskies continued to pressure on offense late in the period, creating multiple scoring opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net again as they entered the period break tied at one.
The third period began and Providence instantly jumped out to a 2-1 lead as the Friars fired the puck down the ice and after an attempt to catch it was missed by Viking Gustafsson Nyberg, the Friars scored on the breakaway. The Huskies continued to battle but were unable to beat Parsons. The Huskies pulled Muszelik late in the third looking to find the equalizer but an empty net goal by the Friars with 2 seconds remaining seal the victory.
The Huskies will now await other results to see their seeding for the Hockey East Tournament.
