Tysen Kendig has served as UConn's chief communications and marketing officer since 2013, and as Vice President for Communications he is responsible for conveying the University’s mission, vision, and values to both internal and external audiences. Reporting to the President, he provides strategic leadership and counsel for UConn, UConn Athletics and UConn Health in the areas of communication, branding, crisis management, and outreach.
Specifically, Tysen directs all aspects of the university’s central communication and marketing efforts, including brand management and promotion, outreach, media relations, public information, online and digital communication, graphic design, video production, Freedom of Information Act compliance, trademark licensing, stewardship of the organization's brand, and development of messages that increase awareness and enhance the reputation of university programs and initiatives. He also administers all manner of marketing and communications for UConn Athletics and UConn Health.
A former sports journalist, Tysen earlier in his career held senior leadership roles in communications and public relations at the University of Iowa, University of Arkansas, Penn State University, and Rider University. He is a 1995 graduate of Penn State.
