STORRS, CT (October 5) — Sophomore forward Lindon Pecorelli’s (LaCrescenta, CA) first goal of the season in the 82nd minute was enough to propel the No. 15 University of Connecticut men’s soccer team to a 1-0 win Wednesday night over No. 21 Boston College at Morrone Stadium. With the win, UConn has won its last four games and is now 7-2-2 on the season and 4-0-0 in BIG EAST play, while BC fell to 6-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the conference.
Pecorelli and junior forward Damani Ralph (Meridian, MS) hooked up at the 81:08 mark for the game’s lone goal. Ralph slipped a pass to the top of the box that hit Pecorelli in stride as he beat his defender and one-timed the ball past the diving Boston College keeper into the lower left-hand corner of the net. Senior defender Sam Forko (Houston, TX) was also credited with an assist on the play.
The lack of scoring throughout most of the game was due to solid defensive play and near misses for each side. The Eagles had their best chance to score in the first half, when a UConn foul yielded a direct kick from 20 yards out that senior goalkeeper Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE) had jumped to punch over the net. In the second half, Connecticut hit the crossbar twice within a minute span but could not find the back of the net.
The Huskies outshot the Eagles 10-7 and owned the 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Hancock finished with three saves on the night. Boston College keeper Danny Caruso made two saves.
The Huskies will be back in action at Syracuse on Saturday, October 13 at 7 p.m.
