Huskies Overcome Syracuse With Second-Half Scoring

SYRACUSE, NY (October 13) — Senior Chris Gbandi’s (Houston, TX) penalty kick at the 51:39 mark started a barrage of UConn goals that propelled the No. 16 University of Connecticut men’s soccer team over No. 23 Syracuse, 3-1, Saturday night.
The win kept UConn undefeated in the BIG EAST at 5-0-0 while lifting its overall record to 8-2-2. The Orangemen fell to 6-4-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the BIG EAST.
Syracuse jumped out to an early lead at the 1:51 mark of the game, and took that lead into halftime, when Jarrett Park netted an unassisted goal.
The Huskies came back in fine fashion, though, in the second half, with three goals, kick-started by Gbandi’s penalty kick, which took place after he was taken down in the box.
After that, junior Damani Ralph (Meridian, MS) added a pair of goals to round out the Huskies scoring.
At the 64:05 mark Ralph tallied a goal from senior David Castellanos (Philadelphia, PA) and sophomore Lindon Pecorelli (LaCrescent, CA). Castellanos was fed theball from Pecorelli from the far right side, who headed the ball over to Ralph for the score. Castellanos was also the assist man on the second goal.
Senior goalie Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE) recorded one save in net, while SU’s Anthony Peters’ had five saves.
The Huskies look to continue their undefeated BIG EAST streak next Saturdy at 1 p.m. when they take on the Georgetown Hoyas.
