Huskies Play to a 1-1 Tie at Wisconsin

MADISON, WI (October 21) – In a redemption from last night’s 10-1 loss, the University of Connecticut women’s hockey team played to a 1-1 overtime draw against the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI on Sunday afternoon. UConn’s record stands at 0-1-1 overall, while Wisconsin remains at 3-0-1.
The two teams played scoreless through the first two periods with Wisconsin outshooting Connecticut 17-4.
UConn’s Tiffany Owens (Belleville, MI) notched her first collegiate goal on a power play giving the Huskies the 1-0 lead with 11:22 remaining in the third period. Kimberly Berry (Haverhill, MA) and Shannon Connolly (Baldwinsville, NY) both assisted on the goal, each notching their first collegiate points. With 59-seconds remaining in regulation, Wisconsin’s Jocelyn Cookson knotted the score sending the game into overtime.
Wisconsin dominated the game outshooting UConn 26-10. Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) played the complete game stopping 25 shots on goal. The Badger’s Jackie MacMillan and Jessica Kernal had a combined nine saves.
Connecticut hosts its first home game of the 2001-02 season on Thursday, October 25 at 7:00 pm at the UConn Ice Arena against Findlay University.
