BREWSTER, MA (October 22) – The University of Connecticut men’s golf team finished the first day at the 67th Annual NEIGA Championship tied for third with Brown University. The Huskies shot a combined score of 299 (+1), three shots behind second-place Hartford and 12 behind leader Rhode Island's 287 (-1).
Senior captain Sean Vigue (Lebanon, CT) and freshmen Mike Murphy (Woburn, MA) led UConn on the day, both with opening round scores of 73 (+1). Rhode Island's Mike Carbone was one of only four golfers to break par in the first round, carding a 67 (-5) to lead the field. Vigue and Murphy currently stand tied for ninth with four other players. Senior Kevin Coghlan (North Ridge, CA) also fired a 76 (+4) to help the Huskies and stands tied for 25th with five others.
The Huskies will wrap things up at the NEIGA today with a final round of play. Last year UConn finished third in a 46-team field with a two-round total of 619.
