Huskies Falter at Regionals

PHILADELPHIA, PA (October 28, 2001) - Members of the University of Connecticut women’s tennis team faltered at the 2001 Omni Hotels Eastern Region Championships this weekened, held at the University of Pennsylvania.
Playing in the qualifying round for singles, freshman Whitney Simcik (Exeter, PA) fell to Daniela DelPrete of Cornell, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4. In the doubles qualifying round, the team of junior Colleen Connors (Ormond Beach, FL) and freshman Natalie Tirapelli (St. Petersburg, FL) fell in a close game to Stephanie White and Margaret Purcell of Yale, 9-7.
Junior Trinell Russel (Voorheesville, NY), who did not have to play in the qualifying round, was defeated by Daniela Kaluskova of Syracuse, 6-1, 6-3. Russel and Simcik teamed up in the doubles round, but fell to Nguyen and Krishnaswamy of Columbia, 8-2.
This is the last tournament for the women’s tennis team’s fall season. They will begin play on the spring season at the end of January.
