Huskies Take First Conference Game of Season

CHESTNUT HILL, MA (October 28) - Tiffany Owens (Belleville, MI) scored the game-winning goal to lift the University of Connecticut women's hockey team past Boston College, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, MA. The Huskies earn their first-ever ECAC Eastern League conference win raising their record to 2-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 in the conference. BC falls to 1-1-0 overall, 0-1-0 in the league.
Sophomore transfer Stefanie Snow (Bedford, NH) scored her first goal as a Husky at the 15:37 mark of the first period. Snow took the shot from the back left of the net and the puck deflected into the net off BC keeper Lisa Davis' skate for the score. Megan McLeod (Livonia, MI) and Jacquelyn McGuire (Glenview, IL) assisted the power play tally.
Boston College began the second period scoring at the 44-second mark. Kelly McManus notched the goal to tie the score. The eagles took the lead midway through the period on a shot from Missy Barsz. UConn's Sarah Clark (West Roxbury, MA) tied the score 17-seconds later on assists from Julie Marashio (Wayland, MA) and Allison Oropallo (Niskayuna, NY). With just over five minutes remaining in the stanza, McManus gave the Eagles' the 3-2 lead heading into the third period.
Kimberly Berry (Haverhill, MA) evened the score at the 6:02 mark of the third stanza with an assist from Laura Stosky (Edmonton, Alberta). Owens stuffed the puck into the side of the net after she received a pass from Snow to take the 4-3 lead with 7:31 remaining in regulation.
Samantha Dexter (Gloucester, MA) got the start in net stopping 26 shots on goal, while BC's Lisa Davis recorded 29 saves.The Huskies will host Northeastern University in their first ECAC Eastern League conference game on Friday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the UConn Ice Arena in Storrs.
