FURMAN, SC (Nov. 19, 2001) -- Senior (West Haven, CT) earned his second cross country All-America honors after running to a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championship Monday at Furman University. Eastern Michigan’s Boaz Cheboiywo claimed the individual championship, finishing first with a course-record time of 28:47.
Wilson, UConn men’s cross country’s only competitor at the 2001 NCAA Cross Country Championship, ran 29:46 to garner UConn’s eighth All-America accolade in men’s cross country. Wilson also took home All-America honors in 2000 with a 40th-place finish.
The NCAA Championship concludes an impressive season for Wilson, in which he captured the NCAA District 1, BIG EAST and Paul Short Invitational titles.
In addition to Cheboiywo, Jorge Torres of Colorado, Alistair Cragg of Arkansas, Dathan Ritzenhein of Colorado and Luke Watson of Notre Dame, whom Wilson just edged for the 2001 BIG EAST individual crown, made up the top five individual finishers, respectively.
With two top-five runners, No. 1 Colorado also claimed the team title, the first in the program’s history.
