Huskies Fall to Northeastern, 5-3

BOSTON, MA (November 3) – Kim Greene’s hat trick plus one assist help lift Northeastern University past the University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team 5-3 in an ECAC Eastern match-up on Saturday evening at Matthews Arena in Boston.
The loss dropped Connecticut to 2-3-1 overall, 1-2-0 in the league, while Northeastern remains unbeaten at 6-0 overall, 2-0 in the ECAC.
The two teams played scoreless in the first period with UConn outshooting Northeastern, 10-5. Northeastern gained the 3-0 lead in the second period. Greene’s first goal came 2:28 into the stanza. Nicole Lewis nailed NU’s second goal at 7:44 during the power play, followed by another Greene tally 30-seconds later.
Connecticut came out strong in the third period scoring the first two goals. Erika Spaeth (Dallas, TX) scored her first collegiate goal on the power play at the 10:06 mark of the period. She was assisted by Tiffany Owens (Belleville, MI) and Kim Berry (Haverhill, MA). Stefanie Snow (Bedford, NH) then scored just under a minute later on an assist from Laura Stosky (Edmonton, Alberta). Greene scored the game-winner on a 5x3 play at the 14:09 mark, followed by the insurance tally two minutes later by Lindsay Ball. Connecticut made a rally late in the third, giving Stosky her first collegiate notch with 49-seconds left in regulation.
Connecticut’s Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) stopped 23 shots on net, while Chandra Gunn recorded 24 saves. NU outshot UConn, 28-27.
Connecticut returns to the ice to face Quinnipiac University in an ECAC contest on Friday, November 9 at 7:00 pm in Storrs.
