Men's and Women's Tennis Triumph Over Georgetown

STORRS, Conn. (April 7) -- Triumph was the word of the day, as the University of Connecticut men's and women's tennis teams pulled out a pair of come-from-behind victories versus BIG EAST rival Georgetown Saturday afternoon at the UConn Tennis Courts in Storrs, Conn.
In women's action, Connecticut pulled off its first victory over the Hoyas in recent years. On the wings of sophomore Trinell Russel (Voorheesville, N.Y.) and sophomore Colleen Connors (Ormond Beach, Fla.), the Huskies were able to take wins in the top two singles matches to bypass Georgetown for the 5-4 upset. Connors and Russel also combined at No. 1 doubles to defeat Caroline Marshall and Hadley Muckerman of GU, 8-5.
On the men's side, the Huskies won 5-2 and had three singles matches that were decided by a tiebreaker in the third set. UConn took 2-of-3 with wins from sophomore Max Zubatsky (Milwaukee, Wis.), who came back to defeat Marc Lohser of Georgetown, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6) at second singles, while sophomore Joe Lang (Winchester, Mass.) downed Andre Benjamin, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (3) at No. 5.
"It is a tremendous win for both programs," UConn coach Glenn Marshall said. "With all of the comebacks, it was definitely a great day in UConn tennis history."
The Connecticut men (8-11 overall, 1-3 BIG EAST) get back into action on Tuesday, April 10 when they host Providence in a BIG EAST dual match at 3 p.m. in Storrs. The UConn women (9-8 overall, 1-2 BIG EAST) will next host Wesleyan on Wednesday, April 11 at 3 p.m. Both contests will be played at the UConn Tennis Courts depending on weather conditions.
