FIVE FORMER HUSKIES TO BE FEATURED ON NBA INSIDE STUFF
STORRS, CT (JULY 12, 2001) -- Five former UConn women’s
basketball players will be featured in two different segments
on NBA INSIDE STUFF on Saturday, July 14, 2001. Svetlana
Abrosimova ‘00 (Minnesota Lynx), Kara Wolters ‘97
(Sacramento Monarchs), Rebecca Lobo ‘95 (NY Liberty),
Nykesha Sales ‘98 (Orlando Magic) and Rita Williams ‘98
(Indiana Fever) will all be featured in the program. The show,
co-hosted by Ahmad Rashad and Summer Sanders, will air
locally at 12:30 p.m. on the NBC Television Network.
In one segment, Abrosimova, who missed the first six games
of the 2001 season due to injury, will discuss playing in the
WNBA and how she has been able to make an immediate
impact as a rookie. Another segment will feature Wolters,
Lobo, Sales and Williams reuniting over dinner to reminisce
about their college careers and talk about their
experiences playing in the WNBA.
While at Connecticut, Lobo and Wolters both were named
Associated Press Player of the Year, and were joined by
Abrosimova and Sales as First Team All-Americans.
Currently, Abrosimova has played 10 games for the Lynx
and is averaging 9.0 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Sales leads the
alumni in scoring in the WNBA with 15.0 ppg for the Magic.
She is ranked 10th overall in scoring and is 4th in the league
in steals (2.13 spg). Williams is next averaging 13.1 ppg to
lead Indiana in scoring and is 11th in the league in assists,
dishing 3.5 apg. Wolters has played all 18 games for the
Monarchs averaging 6.9 ppg and 1.1 blocks per game. She
is ranked second in the WNBA in field goal percentage with
a .573 clip on 55-of-96 shooting. Finally, Lobo returns to the
WNBA after two ACL tears stalled her pro career for two
seasons. She has seen action in 13 contests with the NY
Liberty and is scoring 1.3 ppg.
