Huskies Edge Hartford, 2-1, in Overtime

STORRS, CT (September 29) — A Chris Gbandi (Sr., Houston, TX) penalty kick at the 92:40 mark of the overtime period lifted the University of Connecticut men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Hartford Saturday night in Storrs, CT. With the win, the Huskies improved its record to 5-2-2, while the Hawks slid to 4-2-1.
Connecticut and Hartford both had goals in the first half as the Huskies got on the board first. Lindon Pecorelli (So., LaCrescenta, CA) sent a pass into the box to the feet of Sam Forko (Sr., Houston, TX), who came up with the blast into the net from point blank range.
At 39:28, Easton Wilson evened the match off an assist from Asaf Lubezky when Bryheem Hancock (Sr., Middletown, DE) came out and Wilson sidestepped him to the left.
UConn’s Damani Ralph (Jr., Meridian, MS) was fouled in the Hartford defensive box causing a penalty kick for the Huskies. Gbandi was selected to take the penalty kick that was shot into the upper right hand corner of the net past Doyle for the score.
Hancock, who was in the net for Connecticut, came up with three saves, as Doyle stopped eight for the Hawks.
Connecticut travels to Morgantown, WV to take on West Virginia in a BIG EAST match-up on Friday, October 5 at 8:00 p.m.
