PROVIDENCE, RI – Junior middle hitter Christine Lambert (Lancaster, CA) of the Connecticut volleyball team was named Co-BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week following the first weekend of play. Lambert shared the honor, the first of her career, with senior middle blocker Malinda Goralski of Notre Dame.
Lambert, co-captain of the 2001 Husky squad, was selected as the IKON Husky Classic MVP after leading UConn to a 4-0 record and helping the Huskies successfully defend their IKON Husky Classic title. Displaying impressive hitting accuracy and defense at the net, Lambert tallied 47 kills and 19 blocks over the weekend with a .392 attack percentage and registered double digit kills in every match.
On Sunday Lambert notched 12 blocks, which tied her career high, in a tough victory over California and also contributed 13 kills for a double-double. In Saturday’s match versus New Hampshire she paced UConn with 13 kills and a .478 attack percentage, which was only slightly less than her remarkable .500 against Texas Christian on Friday.
Lambert and the Huskies are next in action against Northwestern in the first day of play at the UOP Invitational on Friday at 5 p.m.
