STOCKTON, CA (Sept. 8, 2001) -- The University of Connecticut volleyball team fell to national powerhouse Pacific in Saturday afternoon action at the Nike Pacific Challenge, hosted by UOP. The Tigers, ranked No. 8 nationally, blitzed the Huskies with a hitting percentage of .375. With the loss, UConn falls to 5-1 while Pacific improves to 7-1 this season.
Pacific opened the match by assaulting UConn with a .471 hitting percentage in game one. Paced by Jennifer Joines, who recorded 15 kills in the match, the Tigers would claim the first set by the score of 30-18. Although Pacific would cool down in the second set with a .267 hitting percentage, the Huskies hit a subpar .071 en route to a 30-19 loss. However, the Huskies would not go down without a fight, battling Pacific in the third set behind the play of junior (Ridgecrest, CA). Wooley recorded her fifth double-double of the year, notching 13 kills and 15 digs and registering a .281 hitting percentage for the Huskies. Sophomore (Ridgecrest, CA) also recorded double digit kills for Connecticut with 10.
The Husky effort would not be enough, however, as UConn fell to Pacific, 30-26, to give the Tigers the 3-0 victory and their seventh win of the season.
UConn faces off against George Washington tonight at 5 p.m. in its final match in the Nike Pacific Challenge.
