UConn Falls to Notre Dame, 3-1

SOUTH BEND, IN (Oct. 13) – The University of Connecticut fell to the University of Notre Dame, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field in South Bend, IN. The loss drops the Huskies to 11-2-1 and 4-0-0 in the BIG EAST, while the Irish move to 8-6-0 and 3-3-0 in the conference.
Connecticut took a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal from inside the box by senior Salla Ranta (Helsinki, Finland) that was assisted by freshman Kristi Lefebvre (Colchester, VT) at 40:25.
Notre Dame then took control of the second half scoring three unanswered goals. The first goal was at 56:21 by Kristi Torlakson into the left corner of the net and was assisted by Candace Chapman and Amy Warner. Randi Scheller scored the second goal on a header from the corner kick of Amanda Guertin at 69:25. The Irish put the game away with their third goal on the header by Melissa Tancredi from the corner kick of Guertin at 82:29.
The Huskies were out-shot by Notre Dame 17-4, which included a 9-0 advantage for the Irish in the second half. Maria Yatrakis (Brooklyn, NY) made four save for UConn, while Erika Bohn made two saves for Notre Dame.
The UConn women’s soccer team returns to action on Sun., Oct. 20, at 1:00 pm when they play host to Seton Hall at Morrone Stadium.
