Huskies Earn No. 4 Seed in NCAA Tournament

STORRS, CT (Nov. 11) - The University of Connecticut women’s soccer team is the No. 4 seed in the 64-team NCAA Division I Soccer Championship that begins this weekend.
The Huskies received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, as they captured their first-ever BIG EAST Championship crown in their eighth trip to the finals. Connecticut defeated West Virginia, 1-0 at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, CT on a penalty kick by Salla Ranta (Helsinki, Finland). The 2002 season marks the 21st consecutive year that UConn has received a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Leading the Husky offense is Kristen Graczyk (Albuquerque, NM) with 12 goals and five assists for 29 points. Ranta follows closely with 25 points on nine goals and seven assists. She has scored three game-winners, including two on the penalty kick.
The Huskies will play host to Central Connecticut on Friday, November 15 at 5:00 p.m. Rhode Island and Dartmouth will face off the same day at 7:30 at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, CT. The winners of Friday's games will meet on Sunday at Morrone Stadium at 1:00 p.m. The first four rounds of the tournament are played on campus sites with the Semifinals and Finals being hosted by the University of Texas in Austin, TX on December 6th and 8th.
