Huskies Down Providence for Berth in BIG EAST Tournament

PROVIDENCE, RI (Nov. 17) - The University of Connecticut women’s volleyball team clinched a spot in the four team BIG EAST tournament with a 3-0 victory over Providence College Sunday, afternoon. The win moves UConn to 14-14 overall and 9-4 in the BIG EAST, while Providence falls to 2-29 on the season and 0-13 in conference.
The Huskies dominated the match in a must win situation. UConn out hit Providence .386 to .000, which included 51 kills to only 26 by the Friars.
The Huskies were led for the second straight game by the duo of senior Christine Lambert (Lancaster, CA) and sophomore Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, CA). Lambert recorded 12 kills on a .391 attack percentage and seven total blocks, while Hadenfeldt had a kill-dig double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs along with a .417 attack percentage. Junior Julie Erbez (Stockton, CA) set the game with 30 assists.
Providence was led by Ayana Cadres with 13 kills and Katie Fleming who added five kills and 16 digs. .
Connecticut will return to action on Saturday, November 23, against BIG EAST regular season champion Notre Dame at the BIG EAST Tournament in Pittsburgh, PA. Match time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
