Huskies Run-Ruled by Missouri, 9-0

COLUMBIA, MO – Only two days after lasting out a 10-inning game for a victory, the University of Connecticut softball team was run-ruled by the University of Missouri, 9-0.
It was the third time the Huskies have faced the Tigers in the last five days, and the fourth time this season. The loss dropped UConn to 3-14 overall and propelled Mizzou to 19-16 for its 10th-straight win.
MU put up two runs in each the first, second and fourth innings and three in the third to end the game after just four and a half innings.
The Huskies were out-hit by the Tigers, 12 to three, and MU managed to tally five extra-base hits.
Freshman Ashleigh Campen (Rougemont, NC), senior Lisa Girolamo (Ashby, MA) and freshman Jen D’Angelo (Wyomissing, PA) put up UConn’s three hits on the day.
Freshman Jessica Gurney (Williamstown, MA) had her first career start in the game and fell to 0-1 with the loss. Missouri pitcher Erin Kalka picked up the win, moving to 7-5 on the season.
UConn begins BIG EAST action this weekend as the Huskies play host to St. John’s in a doubleheader at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Seton Hall at noon on Sunday.
