Huskies Claim Two Novice Races

MIAMI, FL (March 23, 2002) – The University of Connecticut women’s rowing team took first place in two races and second in the other three in a competition between the Huskies, Miami and West Virginia on Saturday morning.
Connecticut claimed both novice races. In the novice 8, UConn defeated both Miami and West Virginia with a time of 7:50.2, and then took the top spot in the Novice 4 competition as well, over Miami, with a time of 9:39.7. West Virginia did not race in the Novice 4.
In the first Varsity 8 race, UConn took second with a time of 7:22.7 behind Miami (7:30.6). West Virginia took third with a time of 7:41.7. In the second Varsity 8 race, only the Huskies and Miami competed, with UConn again claiming second (8:01.9) and Miami taking first (7:46.9)
In the JV 8, the Huskies took second to Miami, who notched a time of 7:39.2, while UConn had a time of 7:50.1. West Virginia did not participate in this race either.
UConn will return from its Spring Break trip to take on Rhode Island and Fairfield at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, in Fairfield, CT.
