Huskies in 16th at Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, SC (March 4) - The University of Connecticut men’s golf team was in action at the Winthrop-Waterford Invitational on Monday as it combined for a score of 326, which has the squad in 15th place after the first round. Winthrop University leads the field of 19 with a combined score of 300.
Pacing the Huskies was senior Sean Vigue (Lebanon, CT), who shot a four-over-par 76 and is tied with five others for 19th place. Junior Nate Thomsen (Rocky Hill, CT) and freshman Justin Ciombor (Plainville, MA) each carded an 82 (+10) on the day, tying them with five others for 53rd place. Senior Kevin O’Connor (East Lyme, CT) and freshman Mike Murphy (Woburn, MA) each finished the first round with scores of 86 (+12), which has them tied with Mercer’s Jonathon Jenkins in 77th place.
De Paul’s Drew Mayhew and Winthrop’s Chuck Brueggemann lead the field after firing scores of 70 (-2) in the opening round. The Winthrop-Waterford Invitational will conclude tomorrow with a final round of 18 at the Waterford Golf Course.
