Volleyball Inks Two More Recruits For 2002 Season

STORRS, CT (Apr. 11, 2002) – University of Connecticut volleyball head coach Kelli Myers announced Thursday that two student-athletes have signed letters of intent to play for UConn in the fall. Allison Baker of Glastonbury, CT, and Megan Crawley of Georgetown, TX, join Heather Ashley of Smithsburg, MD, who signed a letter of intent in November, as the Huskies’ incoming freshman class of 2002.
Baker, a 6’0” outside hitter, attends Glastonbury High School, where she was team captain for the 2001 season. An All-State and All-Conference player for three seasons, Baker is the 2001 Gatorade Player of the Year from the state of Connecticut. She was a member of the USA Volleyball Select team in the summer of 2001 and has competed in the Husky Juniors Volleyball program for the past two years.
“I am really excited about Allison joining our program. She is our first Connecticut player to receive a scholarship to play in our program and we are just thrilled,” Myers said. “Allison is a natural athlete and has a great deal of potential. Her father, Allan Baker, is a former basketball player from Providence College. I am looking forward to working with her and having her in our program.”
A 6’0” middle hitter, Crawley will join Baker at Connecticut in the fall. She is a three-year letterwinner for Georgetown High School and was varsity team captain in 2001. A two-time District MVP, Crawley was named to the All-Central Texas First Team her senior year. She has competed with the Austin Juniors Volleyball Club for the past four years.
“Megan will be a great addition to our program and will add depth in the middle hitter position,” Myers said. “She has good size and strong overall skills. We are looking forward to working with her.”
UConn finished last season with a 21-7 record. The Huskies begin the 2002 season on Friday, August 30, at the Colorado State University Park Inn Classic.
