PROVIDENCE, RI (April 15) – The University of Connecticut men’s golf team will be one of six teams competing at the 2002 BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship from April 19-21 at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, IN, as announced by the conference today.
The Huskies, who most recently finished fifth at the New England Division I Championship, earned the tournament’s fourth seed and will join Virginia Tech, St. John’s, Notre Dame, Seton Hall and Georgetown for the 54-hole event. This season marks UConn’s 22nd trip to the conference tournament despite having missed the cut last season for the first time in school history.
The BIG EAST has sponsored a men’s golf championship each year since 1979. St. John’s captured the first team title at the Willimantic Country Club in Connecticut. For the third time in league history, the Championship will take place during the spring season. In addition to the individual and team award winners, the top seven individual finishers receive all-conference honors. The BIG EAST Champion will earn an automatic NCAA bid.
