Connecticut to Face No. 2 Georgetown

• UConn enters today’s game with a record of 8-5 overall, 3-2 in the BIG EAST. This is only the second meeting between UConn and Georgetown in program history. Last season, then No. 3 Georgetown defeated Connecticut, 19-4, in Washington, DC. UConn’s Pam Lowie scored two goals in the loss.
• Last time out, Connecticut defeated Fairfield in a 12-10 overtime victory. Heather Bliss, Pam Lowie and Tracy Mullaney each scored three goals. Kelly Feeley scored the game-winner with 2:08 left in the first three-minute overtime to push UConn ahead, 11-10.
• Senior Kelly Feeley was named the BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Week after the Huskies went 2-0 behind her play last week. She helped UConn extend her win streak to four with victories over UMass and Virginia Tech. For the week, Feeley recorded six ground balls, two draw controls and four caused turnovers. She also contributed on the offensive end, notching seven goals and two assists.
• Freshman Tracy Mullaney leads the Huskies in scoring with 37 points on 27 goals and 10 assists, and has made nine of her 14 free position shots. Following behind Mullaney, and leading the team in goals scored is senior Pam Lowie with 29. She has also added six goals for 35 total points, and has caused 17 turnovers. Senior Kelly Feeley leads the team in ground balls with 46, plus she has 15 caused turnovers and 19 draw controls.
• April Pollock has played and started in all 13 of UConn’s games this season. She has accumulated 604-miuntes in net allowing 100 goals on 103 saves. Jennifer Wong has recently seen more time accumulating 185-minutes allowing 22 goals on 29 saves. In the last four games, in which she has played in three, Wong has earned three wins.
• Freshman Tracy Mullaney has made a huge dent in the scoring column at UConn in only her freshman season. She has scored in every game but one, against No. 14 Yale, in UConn’s 12-8 loss. She has also had a multiple-point game in all but three, against No. 11 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Yale and Virginia Tech. Kelly Feely has a 12-game scoring streak, scoring at least a point in every game but the first of the season against William & Mary. Pam Lowie is also on a 10-game scoring streak.
• Senior Kelly Feeley is 13th in the country in ground balls collected. She has picked 36 ground balls in 10 games played, as of April 14. Connecticut is ranked-nationally 24th in draw controls (106), 25th in scoring offense (10.8), 27th in scoring defense (9.4) and 25th in scoring margin (1.40), also as of April 14.
• The Huskies have 17 athletes that hail from the state of New York. The 14 other athletes on the team are natives of seven other states (Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Pennsylvania).
• The Hoyas defeated Penn State, 18-9, on Wednesday, scoring 11-second half goals. Erin Elbe led Georgetown with five goals and one assist. With the win, GU improved to 13-1 overall, and holds a perfect 5-0 record in the conference.
• No. 2 Georgetown Hoyas captured their second consecutive BIG EAST Regular Season Title with a 17-8 defeat over No. 9 Notre Dame on April 20. All-American attacker Erin Elbe led the team with four goals and two assists.
• Erin Elbe earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after leading Georgetown in wins over William & Mary and Notre Dame. She had 14 points on nine goals and five assists.
• Leading the team in scoring is Erin Elbe with 58 points on 42 goals and 16 assists.
• The only loss Georgetown has suffered this season was to then No. 5 North Carolina, 11-10. The Tarheels scored eight second half goals, including the game-winner with 48.7 seconds remaining in regulation.
• The Hoyas close out regular season play today here at Connecticut. Georgetown earned the BIG EAST’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, which will begin on May 9 for the first round games.
