STORRS, CT (May 21) – Pam Lowie (Cortland, NY) of the University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team was named to the 2002 IWLCA/USL All-American Third Team as selected by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association and US Lacrosse. Brine Lacrosse, Inc. sponsors the awards, and for the first year the IWLCA and US Lacrosse have joined efforts in promoting the accomplishments of student-athletes on the field.
Lowie earned 2002 All-BIG EAST First Team honors to wrap-up her four-year career at UConn. In 2002, Lowie notched 33 goals and six assists for a team-second 39 points. She collected 35 ground balls, caused 21 turnovers and had 14 draw controls. Lowie ends her four-year career at UConn holding the program record for goals (153), points (173) and shots on goal (336).
NCAA Division I champion Princeton placed three athletes on the first team, while runner-up Georgetown and semifinalist North Carolina both had two honorees. ACC regular-season champion Virginia had two first team selections, as did CAA regular-season champion Loyola.
The Huskies completed the 2002 season with an overall record of 9-7, one win shy of tying the program record for victories in a season. In only the second season of the BIG EAST Conference lacrosse league, UConn held a .500 record of 3-3, shattering the team’s 2001 record of 1-6. The Huskies place three players on the 2002 All-BIG EAST Teams, the most in program history.
