Rosen Named to the National Elite Lacrosse Team

STORRS, CT (August 12) – Bonnie Rosen, head coach of the University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team, was named to the 2002-03 Women’s Lacrosse National Elite Team as announced by US Lacrosse, the national governing body for the sport.
A total of 42 players were named to the United States Women’s Elite and Developmental lacrosse teams for 2002-03. Twenty players, including Rosen, were named to the Elite team and 22 were named to the Developmental team.
A total of 86 players participated in the tryouts at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa., from Aug. 3-4. U.S. Elite head coach Sue Stahl (current head coach at Old Dominion) and U.S. Developmental head coach Sue Murphy (current head coach at Richmond) and a committee of selectors made the final decisions.
This year’s teams will practice together, play exhibition scrimmages against college teams and serve as clinicians for the US Lacrosse Women’s Division National Clinic Month activities scheduled for February 2003. US Lacrosse conducts clinics for youth players at locations throughout the country to help aid in the growth of the sport. The training is in preparation for the 2005 World Cup games that will be held in the United States.
Most recently, Rosen was a member of the 2001 US World Cup Team that captured its fourth consecutive world title. Rosen was a starting defender on the 16-member 1997 U.S. Lacrosse World Cup games team, which captured the 1997 World Cup in Tokyo. Rosen is a 10-year member of the United States Lacrosse Elite Team (1992-present), captained the 2000 Touring Team to Australia, and was also a member of the 1996 Touring Team to Great Britain.
Rosen, who recently completed her sixth season as head coach of the UConn women’s lacrosse program, has been one of the nation’s top lacrosse competitors since her graduation from the University of Virginia in 1992.
