UConn Defeats Jacksonville State, 3-0

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Sept. 13) - The University of Connecticut(4-3) women’s volleyball team won the opening match of the Illinois Invitational, 3-0 (30-22, 30-28, 30-22) over Jacksonville State(3-5).
The Huskies dominated the match tonight against the Gamecocks, with outstanding individual performances. UConn was led by senior Melissa Wooley (Ridgecrest, CA) with 15 kills on a .429 hitting percentage. Sophomore Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, CA) just missed her third double-double of the season with nine kills and 12 digs. Freshman Jenny Neelands (Gainesville, FL) recorded a team high and a career high 43 assists for an average of 14.3 a game, while freshman Megan Crawley (Georgetown, TX) hit .462 along with three blocks. Finally, senior Sarah Walton (North Fork, CA) added 10 kills, six digs and two service aces.
UConn returns to action tomorrow night, against the winner of the Illinois vs. Arkansas State match up, for the championship at the University of Illinois Invitational.
