Volleyball to Host Connecticut Invitational, Fri.-Sat., Sept. 20-21

STORRS, CT (Sept. 18)- The UConn volleyball team will host the Connecticut Invitational on Fri. and Sat., Sept. 20-21, at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion. The tournament field will be comprised of the Huskies, Ohio, Rhode Island and UW-Green Bay. Connecticut plays at 7:30 pm Friday and at both 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm on Saturday.
Connecticut will open the tournament with Rhode Island on Friday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. This will be the 20th meeting between the Huskies and Rams, with Rhode Island holding a decisive 15-4 advantage. The last meeting between the two teams came last year in Kingston, RI, with the Rams wining 3-1. Rhode Island is currently, 1-5, but has faced five top 20 teams already this season. URI is led by Kaleena Miller averaging 3.88 k/game and 3.12 d/game.
On Saturday, UConn will face both UW-Green Bay and Ohio. The first match will be at 2:30 against UW-Green Bay. This is the second meeting between these two teams, with the first coming in 1994, at the Loyola Invitational, where the Huskies won 3-0. The Phoenix are currently 4-6 on the season and on a three match losing streak. UWGB is led by Janelle Tomlinson who averages 4.22 k/game. 0.61 blocks and 2.31 d/game.
Connecticut will meet Ohio in the final match of the Invitational. This will also be their second meeting, with the first coming in 1991, at the Wright State Tournament, where Ohio won 3-0. The Bobcats are currently 8-1, and on a two match winning streak. Ohio is led by Briana Adamovsky who averages 9.06 a/game, 1.65 k/game and 2.52 d/game. Adamovsky has also recorded a triple-double this year against Wake Forest (44 assists, 12 digs, 10 kills) and fell two kills shy of two others against Furman and Houston.
