UConn Finishes Second at IKON Husky Classic

STORRS, CT (Sept. 7) - The University of Connecticut women’s volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday, at the 2002 IKON Husky Classic, to finish second behind Sacramento State.
The first match saw UConn easily defeat the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 3-0 (30-20,30-23,30-27). The Huskies were led by, all-tournament team member, sophomore Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, CA) with her second straight double-double. Hadenfeldt registered 10 kills, a career high 23 digs and a hitting percentage of .346 for the double-double. Junior Julie Erbez (Stockton, CA) led Connecticut in assists for the fifth straight match with 33, while all-tournament team member, Christine Lambert (Lancaster, CA) contributed with a team high six blocks.
UWM was led by Sarah Potts with a double-double recording 17 kills and 13 digs.
The second match was against the Sacramento State Hornets for the 2002 IKON Husky Classic Championship. UConn never seemed to get on track as they were downed by the Hornets, 3-0 (30-19, 30-13, 30-22). The Huskies only recorded 30 kills with a hitting percentage of .025, while Sacramento State had 50 kills and hit .281 for the match.
Connecticut was led by senior Melissa Wooley (Ridgecrest, CA) with 9 kills, while senior Stephanie Ziemann (Linden, CA) led defensively with 16 digs.
Sacramento State was led by tournament MVP, Lisa Beauchene who just missed a triple-double with 8 kills, 29 assists and 8 digs. The leading hitter for the Hornets was all-tournament team member, Jayme Wright, with 18 kills.
UConn returns to action on Fri., Sept. 13, against Jacksonville State at the University of Illinois Invitational.
