Huskies Drop Game Two to Canisius, 5-2

BUFFALO, NY (January 18) – The University of Connecticut men’s hockey team dropped game two to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Canisius, 5-2 on Saturday, after playing to a 3-3 tie the previous evening. The Huskies fall to 5-14-3 overall and 4-9-3 in the MAAC as Canisius improves to 7-12-3, 7-6-1 in the league.
Both teams went scoreless in the first period, but Canisius came out with a five-goal rally in the second. Kyle Bostic started off the scoring a mere 32 seconds into period two and was followed by two more goals by Marc Bouffard and Tim Songin, all scored in the first three minutes of the period. Fred Coccimiglio put in number four later in the period before the Huskies were able to break the shutout. Adam Rhein (Cottage Grove, MN) maximized on the power play from Tim Olsen (Vadnais Heights, MN) and Ron D’Angelo (Massapequa, NY) at 17:03. Canisius’ Joe D’Urzo answered back just 32 seconds later to regain the Golden Griffs’ four-goal lead.
Beau McLaughlin (Virginia Beach, VA) scored the only tally of the final frame at 11:08 from Michael Hoffman (Scituate, MA) and Chris Uber (Ithaca, NY).
Shots on goal were close, with Canisius holding a 35-31 edge. Jason Carey started in goal for the Huskies, making 15 saves. Paul Morrisey relieved him early in the second period and also sent away 15. Canisius goaltender Bryan Worosz recorded the win and 27 saves and Jeremy Redquest made 2 saves in net.
The Huskies return to action on Friday, January 24 when they travel to West Point, NY for a MAAC match-up against Army at 7 p.m.
