HAMILTON, NY (Oct. 5) – The University of Connecticut’s men’s golf team placed seventh out of 14 schools competing in the ECAC Championship on Sunday at the par-72 Seven Oaks Golf Course at Colgate University. The event was shortened down to a single round due to Saturday’s rains. UConn shot a 311 (+23), 13 strokes behind tournament champion Binghamton’s 298 (+10). The Huskies finished ahead of fellow BIG EAST Conference member Seton Hall at the event, marking the second straight weekend in which the Huskies have topped conference competitors after not beating any BIG EAST foes all of last fall.
For the third time in UConn’s last four team rounds, a Husky golfer finished in the red as Mike Murphy shot a one-under-par 71 to finish just a single stroke back of individual champion Keith Henrickson of Binghamton who shot a 70. Last week, at The McLaughlin, Jordan Burke shot a 68 and a 69 in the first two rounds at the par-70 Bethpage Red Course on Long Island. Dan White was second for UConn with a 77 (+5) followed by Burke with an 81 (+9), Dan Keefe with an 82 (+10) and Justin Ciombor who shot an 84 (+12).
The Huskies return to action next weekend when they travel to New Haven, Conn. for the MacDonald Cup hosted by Yale.
