STORRS, CT (Nov. 23) – Sophomore goaltender Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta) stopped all 21 shots she faced, and Megan McLeod (Livonia, MI) notched two goals to lead the University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team past Hockey East foe Boston College, 3-0, in Chestnut Hill, MA. With the victory, UConn improves to 4-6-3 on the year, 2-1-1 in Hockey East. The Eagles slip to 3-6-0 on the year, 0-4-0 in the loop.
UConn got on the board at the 10:26 mark in the first period. McLeod took a feed from Tiffany Owens (Belleville, MI) and found the back of the net, giving the Huskies a lead they would not relinquish. McLeod's game-winner was of the short-handed variety, UConn’s second of the young season after not tallying one short-handed goal last season.
Senior Julie Marashio (Wayland, MA) scored her first goal of the season, giving the Huskies a 2-0 edge and a little more breathing room. McLeod lit the lamp a second time with just 22 seconds remaining in the contest, putting the cherry on top of UConn’s Sunday.
Shain was phenomenal in net, en route to earning her second shutout of the season. Christine Moynihan made 27 saves for Boston College.
The Huskies are back in action when they travel to No. 7 St. Lawrence on Friday and Saturday, November 28 and 29. Game time for Friday is set for 7:00 p.m. and Saturday’s game is slated for 4:00 p.m.
