UConn Cruises Past Holy Cross

STORRS, CT (Feb. 4) - The University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming and diving teams dominated Holy Cross on Tues., at Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. In the final home dual of the season the Huskies won 171-107 on the women's side and 174-95 on the men's side. The win moves the ladies to 7-2 overall, while the men go to 6-3 on the season.
UConn recorded 23 first place finishes, with 12 on the women's side and 11 on the men's side.
The women were led by Kate Larson with two first place finishes in the 50 yard butterfly and 50 yard breaststroke. Melissa Kull also was impressive on the diving boards as she won the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Other individuals with first place finishes are Kelly Bergkessel 400 IM, Michal Rinkevich 200 freestyle, Katy Cerrito 50 backstroke, Lindsay Hansen 100 freestyle, Christine Harvey 100 breaststroke and Liz Campbell 500 freestyle. The Huskies also won both the 200 freestyle relay and 200 yard medley relay.
On the men's side, UConn was led by Marshal Livingstone, Bobby Folan and Chase Dunlap. Livingstone won the 50 yard backstroke and the 100 freestyle, Folan won the 400 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, while Dunlap won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Other individual first place finishes are Matt Smith 200 freestyle, Jon Kunces 50 breaststroke, Brian Thomas 50 freestyle, Bill Monaghan 100 backstroke, Tim Jones 500 freestyle and Connor Murphy 50 butterfly. The men's team also won both the 200 freestyle and medley relays.
The Huskies return to action on Feb. 14 and 15, at Piscataway, NJ for a BIG EAST Championship qualifier meet.
