Men's Golf Finishes 17th In Season Opener

ROCK HILL, S.C. (March 11) – The University of Connecticut men’s golf team shaved five strokes off of its Monday score of 318, but coupled with a Tuesday total of 313, the Huskies finished 17th out of 19 schools at the 36-hole Winthrop Waterford Invitational at the par-72 Waterford Golf Club in Rock Hill, S.C. Charleston Southern won the two-day event with a score of 581. The event was UConn’s first of the spring season.
Sophomore Justin Ciombor paced the UConn finishers, and tied for 40th overall, with a 10-over two round total of 154, shooting a pair of 77s. Jordan Burke placed second for UConn and tied for 50th overall with a 156 (+12) while Mike Murphy was the third-best Husky, tying for 59th with a 158 (+14) on the heels of a team-low round for Tuesday’s action with his 76. Nathan Thomsen tied for 80th overall with a 163 (+19), while Daniel Keefe placed 93rd overall with a 172 (+28) to round out the UConn finishers.
The Huskies will return to action on March 17 and 18 when they travel to California to partake in the University of San Diego Invitational at the Del Mar Country Club.
