Men's Golf Finishes 16th In California

RANCHO SANTA FE, CA. (March 18) – The University of Connecticut men’s golf team shot a 321 on Tuesday’s third round, its best score of the tournament, but ended up tied for 16th place out of 16 schools at the USD Invitational, hosted by the University of San Diego at the par-72 Del Mar Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The Huskies posted a three-round total of 1016 (+152) for the tournament, which was won by Utah with a score of 909 (+45).
UConn’s final round saw both Nathan Thomsen (78) and Jordan Burke (77) post the Huskies’ first sub-80 rounds of the tournament. Both golfers lowered their scores in each successive round of the tournament as Thomsen finished with a 248 (+32) and Burke tallied a 251 (+35). Justin Ciombor shot an 85 on Tuesday, shaving a single stroke off of his total in each of the three rounds to wind up with a 258 (+42). With an 81 on Tuesday, Mike Murphy shaved 10 strokes off of his identical scores from the first two rounds to wrap up the tournament with a 263 (+47). Michael Hornug was fifth for UConn with a 283 (+67). In addition to those five, a pair of Huskies played the event in a non-team scoring capacity. Daniel Keefe actually proved to be UConn’s top shooter on the event, tying for 62nd overall with a 246 (+30). Anthony Hrenko saw his first action at UConn and came away with a 263 (+47).
The Huskies will return to action on March 28 and 29 when they travel to Greenville, NC to partake in the Bradford Invitational at East Carolina University.
