PROVIDENCE, RI (April 13) – Sophomore Mike Murphy tied for third overall to lead the University of Connecticut men’s golf team to a fifth place finish on Sunday at the New England Division I Championships at the par-72 Triggs Memorial Golf Club in Providence. UConn shot a two-round total of 611 to place fifth out of 19 schools. Rhode Island won the event with a 592.
Reflecting a recent improvement, both UConn’s 611 and its +35 are its best for a 36-hole tournament this year. Also, in the fall New England Championships, the Huskies placed sixth amongst Division I schools, as opposed to finishing fifth in the spring.
Murphy’s round of 73 (+1) on Sunday matched his UConn season-low round from Saturday and tied him for third overall with a combined score of 146 (+2). Amongst other Husky golfers, Justin Ciombor and Jordan Burke tied for 23rd overall with a 153 (+9) while Daniel Keefe tied for 47th with a 159 (+15) and Anthony Hrenko tied for 61st with a 162 (+18).
