Deibler Named to Verizon Academic All-America Second Team

STORRS, CT (June 17) - University of Connecticut high-jumper Mike Deibler (Monroe, NY) has been named to the 2002-03 Verizon Academic All-America Second Team as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Deibler, a Sports & Leisure major with a 3.62 GPA was named to the Verizon Academic All-District First Team in 2002 and 2003 as well as the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America Second Team and is a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
As a high-jump competitor, Deibler made his first trip to the outdoor NCAA finals this past weekend, finishing eighth with a personal-best jump of 2.18 meters (7-1.75). Earlier in the season, he claimed his second-straight BIG EAST title. He tied for third at the NCAA East Regional with a jump of 2.16 meters (7-1.00) to automatically qualify for competition in Sacramento. Deibler also earned seven first-place jumps in his final indoor season with the Huskies. He is a four-time BIG EAST Champion in the event, earning the title in the indoor and outdoor in 2002 and 2003. As a senior, he also took first at the New England Indoor Championship meet and placed second at the IC4A Indoor Championships.
