Legare Leads UConn to Second Place at IC4A Championships

BOSTON, MA (March 7) - Junior Joel Legare (Holden, Mass.) turned in a first-place time of 2:22.58 to win the 1000-meter run and help the University of Connecticut men’s track and field team take second place at the IC4A Championships hosted by Boston University. The Huskies finished with 55 points, just five points behind first-place Manhattan College.
Senior Joe DiCola (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) was another strong finisher for UConn, taking second place in the heptathlon with 5,102 points. Senior Chris Mazza (Toms River, N.J.) had another successful finish in the pole vault, taking second with a mark of 5.10 meters (16-08.75). The Huskies also took a top-three finish in the distance medley relay, finishing third with a time of 9:47.30.
Finishing in the top five in their events were Chad Caldwell (Bayport, N.J.) with a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon, Basil Campbell (Ewing, N.J.) with a fifth-place time of 7.48 in the 55-meter hurdles, and Jake Radzevich (Hampstead, N.H.) with a fifth-place mark of 5.00 meters (16-04.75) in the pole vault.
At least two members of the UConn team, Logan Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) and Will Thomas (South Kingstown, R.I.) will compete in the NCAA Championships on March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark. Legare is a provisional qualifier, and will find out this week whether or not he will be eligible to participate.
